Shamrock Shake {McDonalds Copycat}

Shamrock Shake {McDonalds Copycat} – A vanilla-mint shake with chocolate swirl and whipped cream! Perfect for St. Patty’s Day!

Shamrock Shake {Copycat}

So, funny story about St. Patty’s Day. I told you that it is actually my favorite holiday. No really, it is. Because everything is green. (queue cheesy smile) But when I was growing up we had some debate at our house. See, my mother’s side is Irish. But my father hasn’t a drop of Irish blood. Most of us just celebrate St. Patrick’s Day for the fun of it. My siblings and I always took it seriously cause well, we’re like a quarter Irish. But my dad…. he refuses to celebrate it. He purposely wears red white and blue on St. Patrick’s Day every. single. year. And do not pinch him. Ohhhhh do not pinch him. That would be a big fat mistake. Tempting I know, but just don’t do it. I’m looking out for your health.

Me? I’m all kinds of decked out on St. Patty’s Day. My senior year in high school I wore green shoes, green socks, and a green track suit to school on St. Patty’s Day. I’m telling you, I take it very seriously. Plus I don’t like getting pinched so that encourages the green-wearing. But this recipe. Have you ever tried a Shamrock Shake from McDonalds? They only have it for one month of the year – March. And baby oh baby is it good stuff. Gonna be honest, not usually a Mickey-D’s fan but for this shake? Yeah I’m a fan once a year. But now I don’t need to leave my house to get a Shamrock Shake AND I can have it all year long! Woot woot! My husband and I downed this stuff faster than you can say – “drink up!” Annnnd then the brain freeze came.

  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 1-2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
  • green food coloring
  • chocolate syrup
  • whipped cream
  • optional: sprinkles

  1. In a blender, combine ice cream, 1 cup milk, and mint extract. Pulse until smooth and creamy. Add milk 1/4 cup at a time until desired consistency is reached. (I like mine a little thicker so I'd stick with 1-1/2 cups but if you want it thinner, like a drink- just add more milk!)

  2. Drizzle chocolate syrup in desired serving glasses so that it is swirled around the sides (see pictures). Pour shake into glasses. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles if desired.

St. Patrick’s Day is my birthday and I am all about the green celebrating! This is going to be a delicious treat for me this year. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Can you believe I have never tried this shake from mickey dees? But I recently tried an andes mint shake that arby’s has and it was amazing and probably a lot like this. and I can’t wait to try this at home. Plus, its green, and its beautiful. The chocolate swirls on the cup. Love it!

Creamy and minty is where it is all at! Milkshakes are the best, probably my favorite way to eat ice cream. Haha, your Dad! I’m a quarter Irish, too, but also a quarter Japanese, so we don’t take St. Party’s Day tooooo seriously around here. I don’t kind if you pinch me, just don’t take my shake!

sounds great!

What a seriously gorgeous shake! I need to make this!

I LOVE LOVE Shamrock shakes from McDonalds, probably the only thing I like from there! LOL And I am SO excited that I can finally make a shamrock shake at home anytime of the year, and I don’t have to wait until March! Pinned 🙂

You are my new hero! I live for Shamrock Shakes in March.

Hi, can`t wait to make this shake! could you please tell me how much food color will be needed, and when to add? Thank you.

    You just mix in a few drops while you’re mixing everything together. I would start with 1-2 drops – green food coloring is strong and it doesn’t take much to get that minty color!

If you don’t want to use food coloring, use a handful of spinach in a really good blender. You can’t taste it. It’s great! 🙂

Looks lovely!! Just to let you know , it’s actually “St Patricks Day” or “Paddy’s Day” for short 🙂
