Peppermint, cocoa and marshmallows in Christmas ornaments with the title of the recipe written on the top left corner of the image.

Our first apartment was a loft (aka: attic)/studio apartment above a dental office. Our only neighbors were the folks at Taco Time and Pizza Perfect. Lucky us. Now that we have our own house, we also have a real neighborhood. And that means… neighbor gifts! When trying to decide what to give out for our first Christmas in the neighborhood, I settled on something I would love to get: Hot Cocoa. I loooooove hot cocoa. I drink it all. year. round. no matter the weather.   That is not a joke, I absolutely promise I drank hot cocoa at least seven times when we went on our cruise to the Eastern Caribbean last year. Crazy? Maybe a little.

These Peppermint Cocoa Christmas Ornaments were easy to make and they turned out so CUTE. In fact, I’m contemplating keeping all of them and hanging them on my Christmas tree! Imagine a whole tree with these adorable ornaments all over. Ahhhhh, I love it! But, I’d feel bad because I have nothing else to give my neighbors… so I suppose I’ll have to part with them at some point. I could always make more though! They were cheap, easy, and it took me less than an hour to put them together. Yay!

Such a great idea! How far in advance do you think I can put these together? This time of year, as I’m sure you know, is very hectic so the more I can cross of my to do list the better!

These look so cute! I’m thinking of making them for all the girls in my bible study. Thank you for sharing this cute idea!

Where can you find the oranments to buy and how do you clean them ?

    1. Tiffany says:

I’ve bought them at walmart and at craft stores! There’s really just a bit of cocoa dust left at the end after dumping out the cocoa but you can always just rice them out in the sink. 🙂

I made these and they looked cute until the next morning. The crushed peppermint pieces and the marshmallows hardened to each other and became one solid mess. Why?

are this glass ornaments or plastic?

    1. Tiffany says:

I used glass but you can also use plastic 🙂

Thanks for sharing this! You could have a kitchen tree to hang these on & whenever you have a visitor, give them one.

The ornaments are adorable , but I’m wondering how you get the marshmallows out of the ornament. It seems they will clog the opening and the chocolate and peppermint will not be released. Please explain.
    Thanks

    1. Tiffany says:

Hi Cathy, if you use the mini marshmallows (they usually come in a plastic container kind of like shredded parmesan cheese) then they will shake out very easily!

I am so happy I found your website! You are an adorable cook, and your recipes are delicious (I have the tomatillo ranch chicken cooking in my oven right now)! I love these cocoa ornaments, and wondered what your suggestion would be if one wanted to consume what’s inside? What should I recommend to my neighbors as I pass them out (breaking the ornament would mean glass…etc)? Or maybe it’s just more for looks?

    1. Tiffany says:

Hi Tiffany, Thanks for your kind comments! My husband absolutely loves the tomatillo chicken, I hope you did too! For the ornaments, it’s hard to get the cocoa into the ornament without a funnel, but it’s easy to get out without it. Simply remove the top again and pour, the cocoa will come right out! Of course, they can always use it for looks too, it’s almost too cute to take apart! 😉
